Abstract

The community service program was implemented with the aim of providing new teaching strategies to English teachers at SMPN 40 Surabaya. The preparatory stage includes the preparation of materials and the administrative stage, while the implementation stage includes providing insight and knowledge about Cooperative Integrated Reading And Composition (CIRC) teaching strategies, steps for selecting text material, patterns of approach, and the benefits of using the CIRC strategy. This community service activity aims to prevent students from getting bored when given teaching using conventional methods. Evaluation of the activity was carried out by distributing questionnaires filled in by the teachers who took part in the activity, and the results showed positive feedback regarding this activity. This community service program can provide a new repertoire of teaching knowledge for English and Indonesian language teachers in teaching reading material with the topic of finding main ideas to students when learning activities take place in class.
