The Relationship Between Self-Concept and Mental Health of Adolescents at Insan Kamil Islamic School Junior High School

Adolescence is a vital stage in forming an individual’s personality as well as emotional stability. Mental health during this period determines a person’s ability to adapt, manage emotions, and build healthy social relationships. One of the key factors influencing adolescent mental well-being is self-concept. The present the study was conducted to to identify how self-concept is related to the mental well-being of students at SMP Insan Kamil Islamic School. A quantitative correlational approach was employed in this research. The study involved all 34 eighth-grade students using the total sampling technique Data for this study were collected using of validated, reliable research instruments on self-concept as well as mental health. The Spearman’s Rank The data were analyzed using correlation, as the data were ordinal as well as not normally distributed. The he The study found a meaningful positive correlation with self-concept as well as mental health (p = 0.000). Students who had a positive self-concept were likely to exhibit better emotional balance, stronger adaptability, and healthier psychological conditions. There was found to be a significant association between self-concept and mental health among adolescents at SMP Insan Kamil Islamic School. School-based interventions through character education and Islamic counseling programs are recommended to strengthen positive self-concept and enhance students’ mental well-being.
