Abstract

Hypertension is a condition where the systolic blood pressure is upper than 140 mmHg and the diastolic blood pressure is lower than 90 mmHg or in other words, the difference between the systolic and diastolic blood pressure is more than 20 mmHg. Hypertension is known as a silent killer due to most cases are asymptomatic. Hypertension or high blood pressure is a health problem that can bother the daily life of the elderly that needs to be managed to minimize the worst impact. The main purpose of this community service activity is to maintain the stability of blood pressure in people who have hypertension history by implementing some efforts to control the blood pressure. The methods used in this activity were health assessments (anamnesis), blood pressure monitor, healthy exercise activities, health education about hypertension, and demonstrations in using the traditional plants to reduce blood pressure. The tools and materials used in this activity were the sphygmomanometers, book/paper, pen, tape recorder, loudspeaker, flipchart, and leaflet. Overall, this community service activity had done well. All healthcare workers, cadres and the community in the area of Pubic Health Service of Jalan Gedang were kind and friendly. The participation, enthusiasm and cooperation of participants was good from the beginning of activities until the community services were completed.
